Experimental Litters

 

We’re running a couple experiments with our upcoming litters. Something we’ve tried before with some success. If you don’t remember him, this is Winter…

Winter is from the “I” Litter. He lives with my mother and was briefly part of our program. However he went through a period of unexplained low fertility a few years back. I discontinued my attempts to use him as a stud and he has been living the couch potato life.

After weighing various options for our planned fall litters I decided to check Winter’s sample in comparision to Gizmo’s (which I know is viable) and went ahead with giving him another shot. But with a backup plan in place in the form of Albus. Katniss was bred to both males and no DNA test will be needed to assess who the sire is of each pup. With Winter she can ONLY make piebalds, and with Albus she can NOT make piebalds at all.

Not long after that Marilyn was ready. Winter and Albus dual sired this litter as well. However, this one may require some DNA testing as there is a bit of overlap in color/pattern possibilities.

These ladies are due mid and late Septmeber. So far Katniss is confirmed and Marilyn we should figure out next week sometime. Hopefully all goes well for each of them and maybe we’ll see some Winter sired babies.
