The Doxie Suite

This week we began a major multi-layered renovation. Because my husband is a tradesman we DIY things around here, so this project will likely last a good 18 months. Our home is a fixer upper and we’ve been through pretty much the entire main floor since moving in in 2014. It’s now time to attack the basement, which unfortunately needs to be gutted to the studs to re-configure, update, and make it nice. The basement currently includes the doxie’s bedroom that walks out into their play yard. So that means the doggos need new digs!!

We’ve been carefully planning this project for two years now and yesterday The Doxie Suite was officially installed. This 12x16 suite will have electric and hvac professionally installed (hubby is an hvac guy). It will also have security cams so I can spy on the weens anytime I’m away from home. I’ll be setting up a grooming station and ofcourse all their usual comforts and belongings. It will be fully enclosed in their play yard which is also getting an upgrade and expansion. Professionally installed chainlink fence plus a fresh delivery of pea gravel, new toys, and landscaping!

It should be noted that just because our critters have their own room it doesn’t mean they don’t share the main floor with us. I shouldn’t have to say that “out loud” but people do make unfair assumptions. This is just a beautiful bedroom for them, suited to their needs just like my daughter’s pretty purple room is suited to her’s.

The internal finishing will take a couple months, but I’m super excited to soon be furnishing and decorating for them. Progress pics will be posted to our social media. An additional blog post will feature the completed project on move in day!
